DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 8\, 2013 – 6:00am – Sunday\, November 10\, 2013 – 12:30pm \nIf you love music\, join Music for People for a day or a weekend in our Adventures in Improvisation series. These music workshops are open to anyone with an interest in music making. If you want to learn to lead workshops in music improvisation or work on your own musicianship\, join the Musicianship and Leadership Program. Experienced musicians in any tradition are invited to come to Art of Improvisation\, a week-long workshop every summer. No previous experience in improvisation is necessary. Free Improvisation opens doors of creativity for both performers and teachers. These workshops will inspire teachers to take Improvisation\, one of the National Educational Standards\, into their classrooms.  This workshop will be led by the following Music for People Staff Members: Mary Knysh\, Julie Weber\, Eric Miller\, Lynn Miller and Jim Oshinsky.

DESCRIPTION:SpiritGrass is a unique collaboration with mandolin jazz and bluegrass artist Eric Miller\, Native American flute troubadour Clint Goss\, world music vocalist and guitarist Lynn Miller and percussionist extraordinaire\, Ron Kravitz. SpiritGrass is a fusion of progressive bluegrass styles with world music from beyond this world. Members of this group are masters in improvisation. The feel ranges from melodic and meditative to upbeat and foot-stomping.\nSpiritGrass draws on Eric’s ripping mandolin\, mandola and guitar\, combined with Clint’s skill on an expansive array of instruments including flutes from Native American\, African\, Hawaiian\, Middle Eastern\, and Eastern European cultures. Lynn has a unique style of scat and vocal languages that may both sooth and surprise the listener. She also plays the guitar and Tambora Swar\, an Indian stringed instrument. Ron soars on the Hang drum and djembe. SUMMARY:Bio-guided Music Therapy - Omega
DESCRIPTION:http://bioguidedmusictherapy.com/omega-workshop-oct-20-25 \n \nThis seminar presents fundamental concepts of Bio-guided Music Therapy (Miller\, 2011\, Jessica Kingsley: London). The course provides the practitioner with a rationale\, historical context and detailed step-by-step\, how-to instructions for utilizing real-time physiological data driven music therapy. \nInterventions are outlined for various purposes and populations. Some of the target complaints discussed include\, stress\, anxiety\, high blood pressure\, Raynaud’s disease\, neuromuscular deficiencies\, ADHD\, Autism\, depression\, phobias\, and addictions. \nAn initial presentation will review background and basic concepts along with  audio and video examples.  We will then move to live physiological monitoring to demonstrate both the assignment of musical tones to physiological measures and to practice improvising musically with a bio-driven musical output. \nAdditional music therapy interventions reviewed include guided imagery to music\, toning\, mantra meditation\, drumming and improvisation. We see how physiological data taken in the moment and combined with music therapy techniques\, may be successfully applied to the treatment of stress\, anxiety\, high blood pressure\, chronic pain\, dementia\, migraine\, ADHD and addictions. \nIn this workshop format\, the session delivers hands-on experience in creating musical environments based on real-time physiological output of muscle tension\, heart-rate\, skin conductance and EEG brainwaves.  Participants will have the opportunity to develop a personal bio-guided relaxation script in this session. \n22.5 CE credits available through Omega\, plus an additional 5 cmtes possible through Expressive Therapy Concepts \nhttp://bioguidedmusictherapy.com/omega-workshop-oct-20-25

They combined Mandolin with a Slovakian Koncovka flute. The music that emerged\, as well as the standing ovation\, told them that they were on to something. They began exploring combinations of instruments and motifs\, expanding progressive bluegrass in new directions. \nThe SpiritGrass CD is a fusion of progressive bluegrass styles with world music. It draws on Eric’s ripping mandolin\, mandola\, guitar\, and electric bass work combined with Clint’s skill on an expansive array of instruments including African Tongue Drums\, Udus\, Kalimbas\, Swiss Hangs\, Indian Tamboura\, and flutes from Native American\, African\, Hawaiian\, Middle Eastern\, and Eastern European cultures.
